Adipose tissue is connective tissue in which energy in the form of fat is stored.
The cells in adipose tissue (adipocytes) are distended by droplets of fat. Adipose tissue helps to cushion and insulate the body. Obese individuals have an excessive amount of adipose tissue.

Abdominoplasty, which is commonly referred to as a "tummy tuck," is a cosmetic surgery procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the abdominal area.
During the procedure, fat and skin on the abdomen are pulled away from the abdominal muscles, which are tightened, and the skin is stretched downward. Extra skin and fat are then trimmed away making the abdominal area appear flatter, smoother and firmer than before the abdominoplasty.
